Bangor, Katahdin, Moosehead and Penquis

A major city easily reached by highway or by coming into the airport, lakes and rivers, mountains and wilderness. All of these things are available in this wonderful area.

Historic Bangor is a metropolis which retains the charm of a classic New England town. All major sports activites, arts and theatre, nightlife, museums, shopping and great restaurants abound. The waters and mountains will lure you here and then lull you into a dreamy serenity.

Us the daytime to travel outside the city limits to Baxter State Park for canoeing or whitewater rafting or a mountain climbing expedition or just a good old hike on one of the 46 mountains in the immediate vicinity.

Moosehead Lake is Maine’s largest and has eveything a resort area can offer: crystal clear water, great swimming and fishing, great old inns and modern resorts, and camping. Explore to your heart’s content in the daylight, then head in to Bangor for the nightlife.

This region borders on the southern edge of the Allagash Wilderness and gives you the opportunity to sample the delights of pure rural Maine in a single day trip without committing to the long trip or extended stay.

Bangor is also the home of Stephen King and one can find many of the locations about which he’s written in the area and, who knows, you may even get lucky in a little “King Spotting” – try the McDonald’s near his home or the bagel place downtown near breakfast time.

If you can’t decide how you’d like to spend your vacation, visit this area anytime of year and experience some of everything Maine has to offer.
