Maine: Opened in 1983, Crab Apple Whitewater is a family owned business with three generations working rivers in Maine and western Massachusetts. Our home river since 1983 is the Kennebec River. Our beautiful base camp lies on the bank of the Kennebec making for short shuttle rides to the river and no shuttle after the trip. On the Kennebec, we offer several guided rafting trips. Daily paddle raft trips through the famous Kennebec Gorge are highlighted by dam-controlled, high volume Class 3 and 4 rapids. Crab Apple also offers special trips for younger rafters who can ride and “hold on” through Class 3 and 4 rapids in rafts rowed by our expert guides. Wilder options including small rafts and double gorge runs are also available for the biggest thrillseekers. The nearby Dead River offers weekend dam releases at several different water levels for varying classes of rapids. Roughly ten releases each year feature Class 3 and 4 rapids over the 16 mile Dead River and another half dozen releases are for intermediate Class 3 rafting perfect for kids 9 and up. Our base camp along the Kennebec River includes a wide range of lodging options, our pub and restaurant and a beautiful outdoor pool. The highest waterfall in Maine, Moxie Falls, is just up the road and a short walk to its 92 foot cascade. After a thrilling run down the river, many rafters take advantage of nightly paintball games at our paintball facility, Rapidshot Paintball, which start each afternoon after rafting. Fields include woods scenarios with salvage aircraft, speed ball and a full village.
