Welcome to Gail Warnaar’s
The Old Homestead
A real New England Bed and Breakfast in the Mountains of the Northeast
Check Events Calendar and see the Accommodations Page for Room Availability

The Old Homestead is a second century Inn in the quiet Connecticut River Valley Village of Barnet, in Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. You will find Old World New England Charm and warmth with 21st Century amities for your comfort. If you love antiques opt for the White Mountain Room with its big ornate head board. If your tastes run toward the modern you will love the Rose Garden Room. Throughout the Inn you will find the treasures of several families for your enjoyment.

Summer InnGail invites you to relax by the fire in a winter wonderland, or revel in the spring mud season and see life bursting forth before your eyes. In the summer, enjoy the gardens or in the autumn experience the pallet of fall colors and festivals which make Vermont everyone’s vacation destination. Ski, hike, cycle, swim, picnic, kayak, experience history or spirituality, revel in the arts, see a film, or ‘day trip’ around the area sampling Vermont’s speciality food and cuisines and see why we call this our ‘Special Kingdom’! .

The Old Homestead and the Double Reed Shop share the same roof. If you are a musician, especially an oboe or bassoon player, consider a get-away visit, a Chamber Music Party, or a Rehearsal Retreat for your ensemble. With access to 7,500 print music titles from which to read you can choose your next season’s concerts. Gail is also available to coach or give a lesson, or help with reed making if this appeals to your musical need.

Check out the Local Events and Attractions Page for Special Musical and Arts Events in the area. Enjoy an Arts Patron Special Rate when you book for two nights or more at the Inn. Always enjoy a three course gourmet breakfast, a tastefully appointed room, comfortable common areas, reasonable rates, and knowledgeable guidance for your ‘day tripping’ and local cuisines. A variety of activities will fit your style and await your visit, so plan to unpack your bags and stay awhile to completely experience Northeast Vermont.
