SOUTHERN VERMONT
This area is the gateway to Vermont. As you leave the rolling
hills and valleys of the Berkshires, you'll begin ascending
the foothills of the Green Mountains. This mountainous, though
extremely accessible region is the outdoor lovers paradise.
The many ski areas and resorts in this region, such as Mount
Snow, Bromley and Stratton mountains, are world-famous, world
class destinations. In addition to the great skiing, snowboarding,
cross-country, skating and snowmobiling are all accomodated
like nowhere else.
Inthe
summer, the areas all double as a paradisefor water
lovers with wonderful fishing, canoeing, sailing, swimming
and water-skiing in the many pristine lakes, streams,
ponds and rivers.
In the fall, the foliage is breathtaking, to be enjoyed on
the trail on foot or on bike, by car on the many marked itineraries,
or by bus or horse-drawn wagon on a guided tour.
As a distraction, the area is famous for its affordable shopping
- factory outlets, specialty stores, antique shops and art
galleries abound. The area surrounding the beautiful town
of Brattleboro is still an active manufacturing community
and the company stores offer great value.
There are festivals of all kinds, year round: harvest gatherings,
art and theater festivals, antique and flea markets, you name
it! And one of the most unique features and best ways to visit
is on the Amtrak train which runs from Washngton, D.C. into
the area. You can even bring your bike on the train, disembark
and explore an area, and get back on the next one to head
onto another town.
By car, by train, by bike or on foot, this is the destination
for anyone looking for a great vacation.
