MAINE LAKES & MOUNTAINS
In western Maine, every season has much to offer in this
region.
The mountains are perfect for hiking and climing in the spring
and summer, and there's great skiing in the winter.
Access to the Appalachian Trail makes for great hiking anytime
and there's wonderful foliage in the fall.
The lakes and rivers give up all Maine has to offer year-round:
fishing, swimming, boating, ice skating and ice fishing.
This region is the home to Maine's world famous covered bridges
as well as many museums, restored farmhouses, antique shops
and other historical sites of interest. Wind your way through
the towns of Fryburg, South Andover, Wilsons Mills and South
Windham to relive our glorious history.
Sunday River, Shawnee Peak and Sugarloaf are just a few of
the many ski areas in the region and the snowmobiling is like
nowhere else. There are endless miles to explore on the interconnecting
trail system and for those of you who really like to rough
it, dogsledding is also easily arranged!
The towns of Naples, Windham, Harrison and Bridgton surround
beautiful Sebago Lake, the second largest in the state of
Maine and it's a hop, skip and jump to the twin cities of
Lewiston and Auburn for some historical sightseeing.
If you've already visited the Atlantic coast of Maine and
would like to experience more of what the state has to offer
without heading into the wilderness, the Maine Lakes and Mountain
region is for you. History, beauty and adventure are all right
next door in this area!
